This is the differential cover to which the ladder bar bolts cast-in mounting points. This custom cover is made from heat treated aluminum alloy (60,000 psi yield strength), and replaces the factory part. This part was mandatory for the traction bar mounting and secured with special high-strength bolts.
The toughest part of producing the unique GNX suspension was the actual rear end cover. On this reproduction unit, a stronger material is used. Once done a test was done on the mounting ears for strength. They can withstand 14 tons of pressure with no problems. The machining of the mounting surface was done on a quarter million dollar machine so you can be assured that mounting surface is perfectly flat and does not require a gasket. Like all the parts in this kit all new hardware is included with the rear end cover. The drain plug in this kit is a magnetic drain plug. Because this rear end cover is deeper it will now hold about 20% more fluid. Keep that in mind when you consider doing this upgrade. Be sure to also include a small bottle of the GM posi additive as well.
A few years ago Poston out of Alabama did advertise a GNX suspension system that another person attempted to make. It never saw production because of problems with the rear end cover. Richard Clark overcame those problems by having all new blue prints drawn up for this rear end cover.
