What we did is take an ATR style down pipe & slightly modify to give it a longer turning radius. It does fit closer to the inner fender well but maintains a 1/2" gap at the closest point.
The down pipes are Polished 304 Stainless steel. The puck sleeves or bushing is rated at 1600* to prevent puck failure or hanging up. The puck size is 1.65". It falls dead center of the waste gate hole. The flange is laser cut 3/4" stainless as well. The down pipe comes with all stainless steel allen head mounting hardware & band clamps.
First we wanted to make sure this Down pipe would fit all applications in the turbo Buick set up.Our first application was on an 84 T with 144K miles. It has an 87 73K mile drive train in it. The install was on a stock turbo.
With factory worn motor mounts we still maintained a 3/8" off of an inch from the frame. We know this would not be a typical set up. Most would not have swapped out a motor with old motor mounts but we wanted to do the worst case scenario. It clears. New mounts were installed. We had a 1/2" clearance minimum & about 3/8" from the body. Worn body bushings of course.
Then we removed & installed on an 86 GN. Precision 70 turbo. Fit like a glove. 1/2" Clearance from the frame & 1/2" clearance from the body. I'm guessing we would of had more clearance from the body with new body bushings but we are talking real world 20 year old 86 GN with miles. When the down pipe is installed loose you can still adjust the final placement with about 1/4" play by the frame or the body. If your body bushings are really shot & a little closer to the body then wanted you can adjust it closer to the frame.
Difference in our pipe & ATR. This is a pic of an ATR installed on our 86 GN.
This is our pipe from the front view next to ATRs.
Shows the longer neck ours is a little wider sweeping.
Shows the less severe bends & restrictions.
Shows once again a straighter shot to the same point.
Shows down pipe installed with ATR headers.
Clearing TA headers
Shows the rear view of both pipes beside each other. Note same length & pattern just less severe bends.
