We have reproduced the Buick Regal and Oldsmobile Cutlass Shifters.
1978-88 Oldsmobile Cutlass / 442 2004R TH350 200 metric.
1978-88 Buick Regal Grand National T-Type and Turbo T 2004R TH350 200 metric.
They have the 2004-R 4 speed set up. This can easily be put back as a 3 speed by replacing your 3 speed Detent Bracket in place of our 4 speed detent bracket.
What we have done as we usually do is find out what is wrong with the factory shifters and improve upon them. We did this while retaining an exact factory outwards appearance.
What we have found most common with the factory shifter issues:
Problem: The steel neck with chrome rusts. The top groove where the shifter is Breaks off when the handle cracks.
Resolution: Made the neck in Stainless Steel. Much stronger then the OEM mild steel. It is covered with a chrome plating and will never rust. The strength of the stainless you will never snap off the top groove with a bad shifter handle. Problem: shifter cable wears where the pin is attached to by the shifter cable. We have one OEM unit here that must have had a bad cable. The pin was worn half way through.
Resolution: Stainless steel pin is welded in and much stronger and will prevent wear.
Problem Stamped metal over time on the base rusts.
Resolution: Paint the lower base not leaving it bear like the factory.
Problem: J-rod spring flies off an breaks. The spring rusts and loses its tension or splits in half.
Resolution: New J rod spring. Slightly upgraded tension for cleaner firmer shifts. Painted so it will not rust.
Problem: White J rod cracks , splits, or wears out easily.
Resolution: White plastic with 35 year advanced technology to out last the original and not strip or crack.
Problem: J rod bends after all these years of shifting. Will not always go back into alignment of detent bracket.
Resolution: Increased harden steel.
Problem: Detent Bracket is worn and not locking in like it used to.
Resolution. Stainless detent bracket. * Painted to appear factory looking.
We have been doing shifter parts and handles since 2007. We know what fails on these units and the aggravation of finding some of the parts. No one will sell you just a chrome neck.
