This turbo has been the standard go to turbo for the 86-87 Grand National Turbo Regal and 89 TTA since its inception in the 90's.
These are a step beyond the original older TE-44 offerings. Now with 360* thrust bearings, gapless exhaust side sealing ring, assembly balance, and dynamic oil control using a billet seal plate for improved oil control and appearance.
It comes with a re-contoured and re-surfaced original Garrett .63 exhaust housing which works very well with a factory stock D5 torque converter and a polished T04e style compressor cover.
This turbo uses a t04e60 compressor wheel paired with a t31 stage 3 turbine and will support 53lbs/min of air flow at its maximum.
For comparison the stock TB0348 turbo flows a maximum of 37lbs/min. 40-45lbs/min air flow is typical with boost in the mid 20's on a turbocharged LC2 engine with stock heads and camshaft. At that level the turbo will support mid 11 sec power with no problem.
With boost in the high 20's and other supporting bolt on modification the turbo will support low 11 second power in a full weight turbo Regal.
The bearing housing is painted gloss black. The exhaust housing is painted with high temp black paint and stainless clamps and bolts are used on the exhaust side for a long lasting appearance.
Typical supporting modifications are:
fuel pump & hot wire kit
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator & gauge
Down pipe with catalytic converter delete
factory air box delete
MAF translator and larger MAF sensor
open element air filter with solid Mass air flow pipe
intercooler neck replacement or upgraded IC
free flowing cat back exhaust or dump pipe
adjustable actuator
methanol injection
and updated e- prom (chip).
It really comes alive with boost over 20psi on stock head and cam applications.
